On Friday, March 10th and Saturday, March 11th the Bedford High School Chorus Department conducted the musical Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory with Cole Marker playing Willy Wonka. Mrs. Caroline Leap, the director of chorus, said roughly one thousand people had attended this year's play. Every year at Bedford High School the Chorus Department has hosted a musical, when I asked Miss Leap how she decided this year's musical she responded that she had reread the book over the summer and had also talked with the Chorus director at Somerset High School who said it was his favorite musical. The reason they do a musical every year is because it provides the students an opportunity to perform and it's also a tradition. When asking Miss Leap how she came to be in charge of the musical she answered that she kind of just fell into the role. Miss Leap also said that her favorite part of the musical was when Augustus Gloop fell in the chocolate river. Cole Marker had the leading role of the musical this year. When I interviewed Cole and asked him why he wanted to be Willy Wonka he said it’s because he wants to display his talent. His favorite parts were the boat scene and when Camryn had turned into a Blueberry. This is Cole's second musical with his first being Lucky Stiff. When asked why he participates in the musicals he says it's because he can make new friends and have fun. Overall the play was very good and well thought out. The audience enjoyed it very much, specifically Bedford High School's own Summer Herline. She attended this year's musical because she wanted to watch her friend Alex Laird. She feels that they did a very good job and that it was awesome. Good job to this year's cast!
